Thank you for visiting Roy and Kari Smalley's adoption site. The purpose of this site is to keep you updated on the progress of our adoption (click UPDATES on the menu for the latest updates). We'll also provide links to other sites with adoption information.

Why are we adopting? Thousands of children each year are orphaned in China. Most are healthy girls, abandoned partly because of the "one child" rule, partly because of the low social standing of girls, and partly because Chinese social customs such as dowries for marriage have led to parental preference for boys. Girls who are abandoned to be raised in orphanages have little hope - often facing a lifetime of discrimination, abuse, poverty, hunger, and illiteracy. We believe hope for these little lives begins with those who believe in something greater than themselves - people willing to make the effort to bring about a change - who believe that one million cries can be calmed, one at a time. We feel a pull in our hearts to give a little girl the home she deserves by bringing her home to her forever family.

We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, raising and saving the necessary funds for this mission of love - but believe one child's life is worth whatever it takes to be redeemed. We trust in God's faithfulness to provide the means to accomplish what we believe He has called us to do - care for this young life. Though we have not yet touched her or held her close to our chests or heard her laugh, we already love her so much. We know that though she may not even be born yet, she is already our daughter, and we can't wait to bring her home. Who are Roy and Kari?

Kari works full-time as the director of an early education academy. She has an undergraduate degree in child psychology, and has partially completed her master's degree in early childhood education. Kari has a strong background in dance, and was formerly a competitive dancer and an instructor at Fred Astaire Dance Studios. She volunteers at Gateway Community Church in children's ministries and the dance team.

Roy works full-time in web development and computers. He has formal education in theatre, computers, communication, and business management. Roy writes music, plays the guitar, sings, and enjoys acting in and directing theatre. He volunteers at Gateway Community Church as a worship leader and as the webmaster. Roy and Kari have been married since 1999, and live in Mayville, Wisconsin.
